PROF. ALAN N. RESNICK

Alan N. Resnick is the Benjamin Weintraub Distinguished Professor of Bankruptcy Law at Hofstra University School of Law, and is of counsel to the firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in New York.

Professor Resnick has been an active participant in law reform activities in the bankruptcy field. He was appointed by Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist to serve as Reporter to the Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules of the Judicial Conference of the United States, a position he held from 1987 until 1999. He then served as a member the Advisory Committee from 1999 until 2005. Professor Resnick also serves as Chairman of the Committee on Local Rules of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

Professor Resnick is also a member of the American Law Institute and is an elected Fellow and former Scholar-in-Residence of the American College of Bankruptcy. He testified before the National Bankruptcy Review Commission and before the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law of the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives on various issues relating to bankruptcy legislation.

At Hofstra, Professor Resnick has taught courses in bankruptcy, debtor-creditor law, contracts, secured transactions, commercial paper and banking. He had served as Interim Dean of the Law School in 2004-2005, and had served as Associate Dean of the Law School from 1979 to 1981. Professor Resnick also has taught bankruptcy as a Visiting Professor at New York University School of Law.

Professor Resnick serves (with Henry J. Sommer) as Editor-in-Chief of Collier on Bankruptcy, and was the author of Bankruptcy Law Manual (West Group, 5th edition, 2002). He was co-editor of Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1978: A Legislative History (William S. Hein & Company, 1982). He has authored or co-authored more than 50 columns in the Uniform Commercial Code Law Journal, as well as other articles that have appeared in various journals.

In addition to having served on the faculty of the annual New York University Workshop on Bankruptcy and Business Reorganization, Professor Resnick is a frequent speaker at other professional seminars on a variety of bankruptcy and commercial law topics. He also has addressed audiences of U.S. bankruptcy judges at Federal Judicial Center programs in every region of the nation and at the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges.

Professor Resnick received his legal education at Georgetown University Law School (J.D. 1972) and at Harvard Law School (LL.M. 1974).
